Rosatom confident in BelNPP timely commissioning

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – Rosatom is confident that the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) will be commissioned in time, First Deputy CEO for Operations Management at Rosatom Alexander Lokshin told media at the exhibition AtomExpo in Minsk on 19 April, BelTA has learned.

“The construction proceeds according to the schedule. There are no concerns that we can fail to complete the construction by 2018 (the launch of the first power generating unit – BelTA's note),” Alexander Lokshin said.

In his words, dozens of organizations are taking part in the construction of the nuclear plant. Therefore, well-informed people may express certain mistrust in the “everything-according-to-the-schedule” answer. According to Alexander Lokshin, working issues arise in the process but they do not affect the construction of the plant. “I would like to thank our Belarusian partners. The issues that emerge are addressed in close cooperation. These are mainly organizational issues,” Alexander Lokshin said. In his words, close cooperation is half the battle.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build an AES-2006 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The Belarusian nuclear power plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). In line with the general contract for building the nuclear power plant the first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, with the second one to go online in 2020.
