Robot platform developed for Belarusian Emergencies Ministry

MINSK, 21 September (BelTA) – Belarusian scientists have developed a robot platform based on a compact MTZ tractor for the Emergencies Ministry, BelTA learned from Sergei Poddubko, Director General of the Mechanical Engineering Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, during the international science and technology conference Innovations in Mechanical Engineering 2017 on 21 September.

According to the source, the Mechanical Engineering Institute and the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics have developed a robot platform based on a compact MTZ tractor. The platform allows extinguishing fires and operating in hazardous areas without human interference. The platform can be equipped with various tools such as a shovel for removing hazardous substances, a fire hose, or a robot arm. The platform has already been demonstrated to the Emergencies Ministry and has successfully passed tests.

Sergei Poddubko also talked about cooperation with Russia in the sphere of mechanical engineering. The Union State program Automobile Electronics includes projects featuring driverless transport, electric and hybrid powertrains. “We take an active part in this work. Results have already been produced. Together with Russian colleagues we are going to discuss future development of this cooperation today,” he noted.

Igor Korovkin, Executive Director of the Association of Russian Automakers, noted: “We maintain very tight economic and scientific ties with Belarus. We have been cooperating with the Mechanical Engineering Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus virtually since its foundation. I should note that today cooperation in mechanical engineering is actively developing not only in the Union State of Belarus and Russia but the entire Eurasian Economic Union.”

The international science and technology conference Innovations in Mechanical Engineering 2017 is dedicated to the 60th anniversary since the Mechanical Engineering Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was founded. It is scheduled to take place at premises of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 21-22 September. Leading scientists, specialists, and engineers in the area of automobile manufacturing from the CIS states are taking part in the conference.
