Representatives of 20 countries to show up for Sniper Frontier contest in Brest

BREST, 21 June (BelTA) – Representatives of 20 countries have applied for participation in the Sniper Frontier contest, which will take place in Brest on 28 July – 9 August as part of the 2018 International Army Games, BelTA learned from Vadim Denisenko, Chief of the Special Operations Forces of the Belarusian army, on 21 June.

The International Army Games 2018 are scheduled to take place in seven countries – Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, and Russia – on 28 July - 11 August. The games will feature 28 events. The Belarusian army intends to take part in 15 events. The Sniper Frontier event is scheduled to take place in the exercise area of the 38th Independent Airborne Brigade near Brest. “We've received applications from 20 countries. The participation of another seven countries is under consideration. Collective Security Treaty Organization countries, representatives of Syria, China, and Indonesia will definitely take part in the games. As for Africa, it will be represented by Sudan and Nigeria. The geography is vast,” noted Vadim Denisenko.

The Sniper Frontier event will include three stages. The first one will be individual competitions. Snipers will compete in pairs during the second stage. A team event will be arranged. “The competition is complicated: constant shooting and movements. We intend to arrange doors open days during the most impressive competitions. The competitions will allow evaluating the training levels of our team, compare their performance to other teams, and see whether we use the right sniper training methods,” said Vadim Denisenko.

The Sniper Frontier opening ceremony will take place in the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial on 28 July. The competition will be part of the celebration of the Brest City Day. Brest residents and guests are also invited to visit the 38th brigade on 2 August where a large-scale show will be arranged to celebrate Paratroopers Day.

A preliminary survey of the Brest exercise area ahead of the Sniper Frontier competition is in progress on 21-22 June. The physical infrastructure to be used during the contest will be demonstrated and some exercises will be practiced.
