Rapota: Belarus-Russia literary contacts enhance understanding between the nations

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – The literary contacts between Belarus and Russia promote the understanding between the two nations, State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota said at the opening of the 25th Minsk International Book Fair on 28 February, BelTA informs.

According to Grigory Rapota, the Union State seeks to contribute to the development of literary contacts between Belarus and Russia. The Union State stand at the expo displays jointly published books. They are devoted to history, art, geography, culture, writing, various aspects of life of the two states. Last year a joint book was published about Francysk Skaryna. The almanac of young writers of Belarus and Russia, authors of short stories, is published once every two years. The state secretary noted that a lot is done in the area of literary activities. Big efforts were invested to find archival documents abut Maksim Bogdanovich. The 150th birthday of Maksim Gorky is marked this year, and a large number of events are planned on this occasion.

According to Grigory Rapota, culture and literary activities are the area which brings people closer to each other, promotes understanding.

The 25th Minsk International Book Fair highlights the themes of the Year of Native Land and the international cooperation of Belarusian writers with literators from different countries. Taking part in the expo are 32 countries.

The Guest of Honor at this year's book fair is Serbia. The central exhibitor is Kazakhstan.

The 25th Minsk International Book Fair is taking place at the national exhibition center Belexpo (14 Pobeditelei Avenue) from 28 February to 4 March. The event is organized by the Information Ministry of Belarus, the Minsk City Hall, and the book selling companies Belkniga and Makbel. Entry is free.
