MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – President of Russia's Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeyev commended the level of the Belarusian science as he spoke at the second Congress of Scientists of Belarus on 13 December, BelTA informs.
“It makes me very happy and a bit jealous that Belarus has achieved great successes in laser technology and optics over the last 20 years. Today, I think, Russian scientists working in the fields of laser engineering and modern optics import more components and instruments from Belarus than from any other country,” Alexander Sergeyev underlined.
He also emphasized that Belarus “has, indeed, carried its science, technology, and industry through very hard times, and developed them to a great extent”.
The Belarus president views support for science and the role of the National Academy of Sciences as top-priority tasks, Alexander Sergeyev pointed out. ”Along with the criticism we heard today, it is clear that the government trusts you. You showed that you can gradually develop science in challenging conditions and you do not go to extremes”, he noted when speaking to Belarusian scientists.
Belarusian and Russian scientists are working together on joint large-scale projects, including in the Union State, Alexander Sergeyev said. For instance, Belarus initiated 13 out of 50 projects which have been or are being carried out in the Union State. In his words, given the understanding of the two heads of state, Belarusian and Russian scientists should redouble their joint effort and aspire to closer coordination to fulfill new tasks.More about Society
