Pressure equalizer for Belarusian nuclear power plant's second reactor made in Russia

MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) – The Russian company OAO Izhorskiye Zavody has made a pressure equalizer for the second power-generating unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA has learned.

The pressure equalizer will become part of the primary coolant circuit of the second reactor. It is designed to keep pressure within nominal conditions. The pressure equalizer will also limit pressure fluctuations during transition periods and in emergencies. A pressure equalizer is a vessel as large as 79m3. The walls are 160mm thick. It is filled with water and steam in operation.

OAO Izhorskiye Zavody will soon send the pressure equalizer on its way to the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is built using the AES-2006 nuclear power plant design that features VVER-1200 type reactors. The construction site is located 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The power plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). The first unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.

Founded in 1722, Izhorskiye Zavody is one of Russia's oldest industrial enterprises. It specializes in making equipment for nuclear energy industry, equipment for processing oil and gas. This year the Russian company will celebrate its 295th anniversary.
