Potupchik: Belarus is open to international community in NPP construction

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – Belarus is absolutely open to contacts with the international community in what relates the construction of the nuclear power plant in Ostrovets, Belarus' Energy Minister Vladimir Potupchik said in an interview with BelTA.

“Belarus is absolutely open but we are against any speculations. We invite colleagues to visit the construction site where they can see the progress in the project with their own eyes. We do not conceal anything from the international community, including from the Lithuanian side. We have suggested the Lithuanian government to hold consultations at any level,” Vladimir Potupchik said.

“If somebody needs to make sure that the things at the construction side are as such as the Belarusian side says, he is welcome to visit,” the minister noted. “any statements should rely on the findings of experts. I will reiterate that we are open to contacts.”

Vladimir Potupchik emphasized that Belarus is building the safest nuclear power station in the world. When choosing the project, Belarus paid special attention to safety. “We have thoroughly analyzed every stage of the project to build the NPP, including such issues as site screening, development of the infrastructure and legal framework, personnel training, organization of the construction process. Also of note is that international nuclear energy organizations positively assess the experience of the Belarusian side in the implementation of the NPP construction project,” he concluded.
