Poll: Belarusians' confidence in the authorities remains strong

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – The Belarusians' confidence in the authorities remains strong, Igor Kotlyarov, Director of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), said in an interview to Belarus 1 TV Channel, BelTA informs.

Opinion surveys are regularly conducted in Belarus. Speaking about their results, Igor Kotlyarov said: “The confidence in the authorities on the part of the Belarusian public remains strong. The most important thing is that the government takes decisions that people expect them to.”

According to Igor Kotlyarov, in the run-up to the local elections, one of the matters that concern the population most is the absence of leisure opportunities, especially in rural areas. The poll also pointed to an improving situation with unemployment.

Igor Kotlyarov stressed the importance of the work of members of the rural councils of deputies. “They are the closest to the people, and they give the signals to the higher authorities when there are some issues. It is an interesting fact that a high turnout is expected in the places where the work of the local councils of the current convocation is rated highly by the people,” he added.
