Polish MP praises treatment of oncological diseases in children in Belarus

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – The treatment of oncological diseases in children in Belarus is on par with world standards. Marshal of the Senate of Poland Stanislaw Karczewski made the statement after visiting the National Science and Practice Center for Children's Oncology, Hematology, and Immunology on 6 December, BelTA has learned.

“To learn that your child suffers from an oncological disease is a tragedy and shock for the parents. I am a surgeon and have seen a lot in my life but I cannot but feel emotions when I see sick kids. This is why my visit to this place was not an accident. I am happy to report that it is an excellent facility and its treatment standards are on par with the world ones,” noted Stanislaw Karczewski.

The Marshal of the Senate of Poland met with patients of the center and presented gifts to the kids. He went on a tour of the bone marrow transplantation center. He also examined the houses built for parents of the patients with assistance of the Embassy of Poland in Belarus in 2013.

Stanislaw Karczewski also said he had discussed prospects of Belarusian-Polish transboundary cooperation, including in healthcare, with Belarusian Healthcare Minister Vasily Zharko. He said the healthcare ministers of Belarus and Poland should meet for the sake of establishing consequent cooperation, including in the sphere of medical education.

In turn, Belarusian Healthcare Minister Vasily Zharko noted that cooperation between Polish and Belarusian education and healthcare institutions develops vigorously. “Our students go to Polish universities for education and internship while Polish students come here. The best practices are shared. Medical equipment is supplied to our hospitals from the European Union,” said the official. Vasily Zharko added that an agreement on arranging a meeting with the Polish healthcare minister for discussing cooperation prospects had already been reached.
