Polish Atomic Energy Agency gets familiar with BelNPP construction

Vienna, 18 September (BelTA) – Representatives of the Polish National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA) got familiar with the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP), BelTA learned from Oleg Sobolev, Head of the Communications and Public Information Department of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department.

The PAA delegation led by its head Andrzej Przybycin visited Belarus on 11-14 September. During the working meeting the sides shared information about the development of the nuclear safety regulation infrastructure of Belarus and Poland, discussed the licensing and oversight over nuclear energy facilities, emergency preparedness and response, preparing and facilitating of assessment missions and post-missions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The Belarusian side shared its best practices in international cooperation in matters of nuclear and radiation safety and information activity.

The Polish delegation also visited the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. During the visit to Ostrovets the PAA representatives got acquainted with the construction of the plant, oversight procedures at the site and the results of the IAEA Site and External Events Design (SEED) mission. The delegation also made a visit to the Information Center of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

Belarus and Poland concluded an agreement on early warning of nuclear accidents and cooperation in radiation safety in 1994. The agreement provides for regular bilateral meetings to exchange information on nuclear and radiation safety. The previous exchange of information took place during a visit of a Belarusian delegation to Warsaw on 11-12 August 2015.
