Plans to select Belarus' tourism brand by 2018 year-end

MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) – Belarus' tourism brand will be selected by the end of 2018, Deputy Chairman of the Sports and Tourism Minister Mikhail Portnoi noted at a session of the working group developing the brand on 22 March, BelTA informs.

“We are halfway through designing a tourism brand. Most brainstorming sessions took place throughout 2018. The National Tourism Agency arranged a number of events. The key one was an international forum on branding in Minsk attended by the secretary general of the United Nations World Tourism Organization. The most important thing is that the brand will be selected by experts together with anyone who wants to vote,” Mikhail Portnoi remarked.

The brand to be selected will be used to present and promote Belarus' tourism opportunities overseas, the deputy minister added. The UNWTO and EU experts shared their vision of the tourism brand of Belarus, too.

A contest to develop the brand will be launched in April 2018. A public vote to determine the finalists is scheduled for June. It will be followed by a session of the juries that will announce the winner.

A research on Belarus' image among Belarusians and foreign nationals was presented at the Sports and Tourism Ministry on 22 March.

According to the ministry, to date 146 countries have their own tourism brands.
