Plans to practice safe nuclear fuel transportation in Belarus

MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – Plans have been made to arrange an exercise in Belarus to practice the safe delivery of nuclear fuel, BelTA learned from Belarusian First Deputy Emergencies Minister Alexander Khudoleyev at a session of the Emergencies Commission under the Council of Ministers on 27 September.

“Taking into account the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant there are plans to stage an exercise to practice the safe transportation of nuclear fuel,” said the official. The detailed scenario of the exercise will be submitted to the commission's chairman, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Kukharev.

A session of the Emergencies Commission under the Council of Ministers took place in the national emergency response and control center of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry on 27 September. Participants of the session discussed the stable operation of vital civilian infrastructure in the autumn-winter period, measures to ensure the integrity of bridges, and other things.

Plans have been made to stage command staff exercises in all the regions of the country by the end of the year in order to improve the readiness of emergency response units to react to emergencies, which tend to happen in the autumn-winter period.

Talking about the measures being taken to ensure the stable operation of vital civilian infrastructure, Alexander Khudoleyev also noted that it is necessary to revise the standard time needed to restore power supply to some installations. The standard time is 24 hours now.
