Plans to commission dorm for 1,800 persons in Minsk Student Village in 2019

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – Belarusian Education Minister Igor Karpenko voiced plans to commission a dorm with a capacity of 1,800 in the Student Village in Minsk in 2019 as he spoke at the meeting of the CIS Council on Youth Affairs on 12 April, BelTA informs.

According to the minister, the Student Village is a unique housing complex. It comprises seven dormitories housing 7,000 students from nine Minsk universities. “We plan to commission another dormitory with a capacity of 1,800 in 2019,” Igor Karpenko noted.

The Student Village has its own kindergarten, an outpatient clinic, an ice palace, and a shopping mall. Every dorm has gyms, canteens, cafes, and medical rooms.

Belarus is focused on the expansion of the housing stock of the educational institutions, the minister underlined. Today student dormitories accommodate 84% of students who have a housing need.

The CIS Council for Youth Affairs convened in Minsk on 12 April. There are 11 matters on the agenda of the session. The meeting participants heard out Belarus' report on effective forms and methods of putting into practice the state youth policy in the country and considered the implementation of the action plan for 2018-2020 of the CIS international youth cooperation strategy.

They also summed up the results of the 100 Ideas for the CIS project and discussed the development of the CIS international youth cooperation strategy for 2021-2030. Focus was also put on the preparations for the CIS forum of youth organizations, 13th Youth Delphic Games, and the CIS Youth Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

On 12 April, Minsk is also playing host to the 100 Ideas for the CIS exhibition-presentation project.
