OSCE countries to inspect Belarusian army units on 24-25 May

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Representatives of verification centers from 26 countries will visit units of the Belarusian army on 24-25 May, the press service of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

In accordance with the 2011 Vienna Document of the Negotiations on Confidence and Security-Building Measures a visit of representatives of the OSCE member states to several units of the Belarusian army will be arranged on 24-25 May. In particular, the visitors will inspect the 116th Guards Assault Airbase and the 103rd Guards Independent Mobile Brigade of the Special Operations Forces.

As many as 49 representatives of 26 countries will take part in the event. The countries are Belgium, Hungary, the UK, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, the USA, Ukraine, Finland, France, Czechia, Switzerland, Sweden, and Estonia. The visitors will be informed about functions and the routine operation of the Belarusian army's units. They will also be made familiar with the main armaments and military hardware the units use.

Representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry explained that similar events are arranged by every OSCE member state every five years.

On the eve of the event representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry will arrange a number of briefing sessions for the foreign guests. During the sessions the visitors will be informed about Belarus' defense policy, the composition and tasks of the Belarusian army, and main avenues of development of the Belarusian army.
