Opinion: Investing in young people is key to future prosperity of Belarus

MINSK, 11 April (BelTA) – Investing in young people is the key to the future prosperity of Belarus, Marianna Shchetkina, Deputy Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic, National Coordinator for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, told BelTA after getting acquainted with the projects presented in the final of the youth contest 100 Ideas for Belarus.

The society is developing thanks to creative personalities, noted Marianna Shchetkina. So it is important to help young people realize themselves. On the other hand, it is important that they should have the desire and commitment to development. “Belarusian youth is really creative and talented. Today we are moving towards the information society and we should invest in young people,” Marianna Shchetkina said.

According to her, the exhibition 100 Ideas for Belarus shows that human capital is the main wealth of any state. It is encouraging that students propose ready-to-go projects that can be put into practice: in manufacturing, healthcare, etc. In this regard Marianna Shchetkina recalled that informatization and the youth were identified among the priorities at the 5th All-Belarusian People's Assembly.

This year, the final of the 100 Ideas for Belarus nationwide contest has 16 nominations. Some 51 projects have been submitted by school students and students of vocational schools, 25 projects by students of universities, 43 projects by working youth and young scientists. All of them are the winners of the regional rounds of the contest. This year the contest features new nominations such as Inclusive Space, Information and Communication Technology for the Disabled, and also the equal participation in the contest for the disabled.

This year the final round of the contest will run for two days. The highlight of the first day was the foresight discussion IT and the Youth – Belarusian Breakthrough to review the general trends of digital transformation, the development of the digital economy in Belarus.

The BRSM Youth Union has been the inspirational leader of the 100 Ideas for Belarus contest since 2011.
