Opinion: Any move to facilitate visa regulations benefits tourism

BREST, 12 January (BelTA) – Any decision to relax visa rules has a positive effect on tourism, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Belarus Didier Canesse told reporters in Brest on 12 January as he commented on Belarus' recent decision to introduce visa-free entry for foreign citizens for a period of up to five days, BelTA has learned.

“All decisions aiming to relax visa rules and administrative procedures always benefit tourism, as they make traveling easier,” the diplomat said.

He noted that France has made considerable effort to ease the visa regulations for Belarusians. “As a rule, now it takes up to two days to get a French visa. The rules for getting a multiple-entry visa for one to five years have also been relaxed. As for the prospects of a total abolition of visa requirements, the process has already started in the European Union. We have a working group that addresses the matter. Thus, everything is possible,” the French diplomat said.

Didier Canesse is on a two-day visit to Brest Oblast. He met with local authorities on 12 January. The parties discussed prospects for the development of the trade, economic and cultural cooperation. The diplomat has plans to visit the Brest Free Economic Zone and meet with local businessmen. Besides, Didier Canesse will pay visits to the company Danon Pruzhany, Brest secondary school No.15 whose students study French, and the Maxim Gorky Regional Library of Brest that will host a book donation ceremony.
