Number of visa-free tourists to Brest Oblast almost doubles in 2019

BREST, 31 December (BelTA) - The number of tourists visiting Brest Oblast visa-free has almost doubled over a year, ИelTA learned from head of the sports and tourism sector of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Denis Nikityuk.

More than 32,000 foreigners visited the oblast under Belarus' visa-free program (18,500 in 2018). These were nationals of 71 countries. The majority of them came from Poland, Lithuania, Germany, Latvia and the Czech Republic. The biggest tourist inflows to the south-western region were registered during May holidays, Brest's 1000th celebrations and winter holidays. The tourist spent in Brest Oblast the average of three or four days.

“In 2019, Brest Oblast developed a comprehensive tourist product to feature a variety of services, including, first of all, excursions and culinary tourism. Medical and business tourism got an additional impetus. Bike rides, rafting and hiking tours have gained popularity as well,” Denis Nikityuk said.

In 2020б the focus will be made on the development of a network of tourism information centers in the districts of Brest Oblast. The network will provide Belarusians and foreigners with information about different services: excursions, rental areas, tour planning. The region plans about 120 tourist events. In April, Brest will host an international tourism forum that will feature city and district presentations, workshops and talks.
