Number of crimes in Belarus 7.5% down in H1 2017

MINSK, 26 July (BelTA) – The number of crimes in Belarus went down by 7.5% in H1 2017, BelTA learned from the website of the Prosecutor General's Office after the session of the agency's board, which discussed the performance of the Belarusian prosecution system in H1 2017.

It was noted that the work done by prosecution bodies had helped stabilize the crime situation in Belarus. The total number of registered crimes dropped by 7.5%. The number of grave crimes, including murders, went down. The total number of registered crimes committed by underage persons decreased.

Efforts to detect corruption crimes went up. In H1 2017 the number of registered corruption crimes increased by 29% from the same period of last year. Efforts of Belarusian prosecution agencies aimed at reducing the overdue accounts receivable are still necessary.

The overall performance of the Belarusian prosecution system indicates that prosecutors have managed to ensure oversight over the comprehensive, full, and objective investigation of crimes, due procedure in the handling of reports about crimes and applications for investigation, oversight over the actual investigation of criminal cases. At the same time indemnification in criminal cases has dropped.

Participants of the session made decisions aimed at fulfilling the head of state's instructions, counteracting crime and corruption, and bolstering law and order.
