Nominees for Union State literature and art awards 2017-2018 to be announced in Minsk 25 May

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) - The nominees for the Union State literature and art awards 2017-2018 will be named at a meeting of the council of experts in Minsk on 25 May, BelTA learned from the Permanent Committee of the Belarus-Russia Union State.

Three awards in literature and art of the Union State were instituted by the decision of the Supreme Council of the Belarus-Russia Union State of 28 April 1999. They are awarded in recognition for a great contribution to the strengthening of the relations of brotherhood, friendship and all-round cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. The award is given every two years. The amount is RUB5 million.

The works are nominated for the award by creative teams, government organizations and public cultural and art associations. According to the award regulations adopted by the Council of Ministers of the Belarus-Russia Union State the works nominated for the award should be reviewed by panels of experts of Russia's and Belarus' ministries of culture and then submitted to the Union State Standing Committee.

The Permanent Committee is to set up an expert council comprising famous artists, representatives of creative unions, government bodies as well as Belarusian and Russian institutions.

At the first stage, the list of works endorsed by the council should be published in mass media for public discussion. Taking into account the results of public discussion the council decides whether to nominate a work for the Union State award. The main criterion is the importance of a work and its contribution to the strengthening of brotherhood, friendship and all-round Belarus-Russia cooperation.
