Nominees for Union State literature and art awards 2017-2018 announced

MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – The nominees for the Union State literature and art awards 2017-2018 were announced during a meeting of the expert council in Minsk on 25 May, Belarus' First Deputy Culture Minister Irina Driga told the media after the meeting.

Following the discussion, seven candidates were nominated. These are Nikolai Cherginets, a writer, the Chairman of the Union of Writers of Belarus, for the novels “Operation Blood”, “Sons”, “Assignment for You”, “A Second Before A shot”; Pavel Yakubovich, a journalist, the editor-in-chief of the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper, for the publications that have contributed to the relations of friendship, brotherhood and cultural cooperation between Belarus and Russia; People's Artist of Belarus Alexander Anisimov, the chief conductor of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus; a team comprising screenwriter, director Irina Margolina, scenario co-author Yelena Dolinskaya, assistant director Olga Onoprienko, directors Oksana Cherkasova, Yelena Petkevich and Irina Kodyukova for the series of cartoons “The fairytales of the old piano”; composer, People's Artist of Russia Oleg Ivanov for a series of songs; chief conductor of the State Academic Symphony Capella of Russia, People's Artist of Russia Valery Polyansky and musician, Director General of the State Academic Symphony Capella of Russia, Honored Worker of Culture of Russia Alexander Shalin for the concert programs at the church music festival “The all-Mighty God”; author and performer, People's Artist of Russia Larisa Trukhina for music projects “Over the land of Belarus”, “Russia is my song”, “I love you, Belaya Rus”.

The council of experts applied very strict requirements, said Ivan Bambiza, Deputy State Secretary, member of the Standing Committee of the Belarus-Russia Union State. Ahead is the public discussion of the nominations. The final decision will be taken by the Supreme State Council of the Belarus-Russia Union State in September.

Three awards in literature and art of the Union State were instituted by the decision of the Supreme Council of the Belarus-Russia Union State of 28 April 1999. They are awarded in recognition of a great contribution to the strengthening of the relations of brotherhood, friendship and all-round cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. The awards are given every two years. Each of the awards is as large as RUB5 million.

The nominations are made by creative teams, government organizations and public culture and art associations. According to the award regulations adopted by the Council of Ministers of the Belarus-Russia Union State, the works nominated for the awards should be reviewed by panels of experts of Russia's and Belarus' ministries of culture and then submitted to the Union State Standing Committee.

The awards were first presented in 2002. Back then, the winners were Russian actor Aleksei Petrenko, Belarusian playwright Aleksei Dudarev, and People's Writer of Belarus Ivan Shamyakin.
