No traffic problems at Belarusian-Lithuanian border

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – There are no problems with clearing traffic for passage at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, BelTA learned from Press Secretary of the State Border Committee of Belarus Alexander Tishchenko, who commented on mass media reports about a larger than usual number of heavy trucks willing to cross the Belarusian-Lithuanian border.

“The workload of Belarusian-Lithuanian border checkpoints has increased a bit due to the rising number of citizens, who go to Lithuania for the weekend. Outbound queues are not getting larger, there are no problems with clearing heavy trucks for passage, and there are no traffic jams at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, transit proceeds as usual. Everything is being handled within the throughput capacity of the border checkpoints and the capacity is very high,” noted the Press Secretary of the Belarusian border service.

The fact that the Lithuanian customs service temporarily turned off computer systems at the Belarusian-Latvian border on 24-26 September may have something to do with the increased workload of the Belarusian-Lithuanian border checkpoints. “Logistics companies have learned to promptly respond to changing situations at border checkpoints. The Lithuanian direction is being used as an alternative to the Latvian one,” believes Alexander Tishchenko.
