No plans to further raise retirement age in Belarus

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) – There are no plans to further raise the retirement age in Belarus, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Labor and Social Protection Minister Alexander Rumak on 28 September.

A presidential decree was signed on 11 April 2016 to raise the general retirement age by six months every year as from 1 January 2017 to 63 years for men and 58 years for women. “We are not considering another increase in the retirement age,” said the official.

Lyudmila Zhilevich, Head of the Primary Medical Assistance Department of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry, explained that no researches had been carried out concerning a further increase in the retirement age.

At present there are some 2,605,600 registered pensioners in Belarus, 82% of whom draw retirement pensions.
