No official report in Belarus about light aircraft incident at Lithuanian border

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – So far the Aviation Department of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry has not received an official report about an incident involving an An-2 light aircraft at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, BelTA learned from Vladimir Kostin, Director of the Aviation Department of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry.

The official said: “We are waiting for the Lithuanian side to provide official information about the incident involving an An-2 aircraft.” Air traffic control data of the Belarusian and Lithuanian sides is being compared now. Once official information is received, measures will be taken depending on that information, said Vladimir Kostin.

According to preliminary reports, the An-2 civilian aircraft was on a routine flight to monitor agricultural crops.

Mass media reported the Lithuanian Defense Ministry as saying that an An-2 civilian aircraft flying from the Belarusian side has violated the state border two times within 24 hours. The state border was trespassed near the populated localities of Dubiciai and Musteika in Varena District at about 14:00.
