Nizhny Novgorod university, Belarusian universities eager to train nuclear industry personnel

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – The Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R.E. Alekseyev and Belarusian universities intend to expand cooperation in training personnel for the nuclear industry. The information was released by the Russian university's Rector Sergei Dmitriyev during the 4th forum of engineering and technology universities of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The forum took place in the Belarusian National Technical University on 10 November, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Dmitriyev said the Nizhny Novgorod university trains specialists for the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The Russian university cooperates with three education institutions. Integration is tightest with the Belarusian National Technical University. About 100 students have been able to receive additional education in the Russian university over the course of three years. Five professors have been offered retraining courses. In his words, this cooperation will be expanded. In particular, a proposal for tighter integration for training the relevant personnel was voiced during the recent mass media tour Energy of the Future for the Union State.

Speaking about the importance of the forum of engineering and technology universities of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the Rector of the Russian university noted: “It is an international innovative platform where young students, bachelor's degree students and master's degree ones will be able to present their innovative products where they will be appreciated. Ways to implement these products into the production sector will be offered.”

Sergei Kiriyenko, Director General of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom, is expected to attend the career orientation day in the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University on 11 November.

The Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R.E. Alekseyev is a training and research facility. It is one of the largest engineering education universities in Russia's Volga Federal District. The university employs over 1,000 professors and trains about 30,000 students. At present the university offers training in 44 bachelor degree courses and 40 master courses. In 2015 the university was ranked as one of Russia's top 50 universities according to the RAEX agency's ranking.

The forum of engineering and technology universities of the Union State of Belarus and Russia is scheduled to take place on 9-14 November with assistance of the Permanent Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the Belarusian Education Ministry, and the Russian Science and Education Ministry. The event gathered representatives of Russian universities and Belarusian higher education institutions. The forum is supposed to create an interuniversity platform for implementing the main directions of Russian-Belarusian integration cooperation for supporting talented youth in the area of education, science, and innovative activities.
