New premises for border guard post Zabolot opened in Belarus

VORONOVO DISTRICT, 23 September (BelTA) – A new complex of the border post Zabolot in the area of the Lida division of the Belarusian border service was opened in Voronovo District, Grodno Oblast on 23 September, BelTA has learned.

During the opening ceremony Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Leonid Maltsev said that the border service closely cooperates with other government agencies to ensure the security of the national border while paying close attention to improvement and development of the border's physical infrastructure.

The Belarusian border service is focused on offering comfortable border crossing experience to law-abiding citizens while reliably protecting the border against any attempts at unlawful actions.

According to Leonid Maltsev, the border post Zabolot represents a fine example of the comprehensive approach to employing all the assets for protecting the state border. The border post boasts modern equipment and alarm solutions.

BelTA has been told that the border post uses an integrated border guarding system. The border post uses secure communication solutions, can determine the location of every border patrol unit in real time and relies on a computerized system for daily operation.

According to Leonid Maltsev, such border posts and border service divisions have been deployed along the entire length of Belarus' border, including the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, which was the least accomplished one until recently. The official said: “For instance, the border post Svaryn boasts even better technologies such as unmanned aerial vehicles, gyrocopters, fast-deployment alarm solutions and so on.” He went on saying that the government does everything to ensure the reliable protection of the state border.

Dozens of border service installations were repaired and remodeled in Grodno Oblast over the last few years, BelTA learned from Svyatoslav Lis, senior advisor of the Chairman of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee. In 2014 the Grodno Oblast administration allocated over Br1 billion for developing border installations and provided about Br3 billion worth of patronage assistance. The oblast budget will allocate Br1.2 billion for these purposes this year.

The new complex of the border post Zabolot has been built as part of the government program on developing and modernizing the state border infrastructure and the borderline area in 2014-2022. The central state budget has allocated Br32.4 billion for building and equipping the installation. A new administrative wing has been built near the old building. The new wing has been fitted with everything the border servicemen may need. The old building will be repurposed to offer accommodation to families of officers and non-commissioned personnel.
