MP: Belarus will promote socialization of disabled people in 2016-2020

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – Socialization of disabled people is an important aspect of the draft program of Belarus' social and economic development in 2016-2020, Yelena Shamal, Deputy Chairperson of the Permanent Commission for Healthcare, Physical Fitness, Family and Youth Policy at the House of Representatives, told BelTA.

Yelena Shamal stressed that the draft program is focused on the promotion of the social protection of vulnerable categories of people, including the social rehabilitation of the disabled. “In the current five-year term we must do our best to support disabled people, promote their socialization, involve these people in the process of work. It is important for disabled people not only from the point of view of the economy, it is significant from the point of view of their importance for the society, such people should not feel abandoned. Belarus is doing a lot to solve this issue; however, additional work with the civil society is needed because they should not ignore people with locomotor disabilities or Down syndrome,” the MP said.

In her opinion, it is also needed to focus on the development of the pharmaceutical industry. “In the past five years, we have ensured the sustainability of the pharmaceutical industry. Now there is a task to launch the manufacture of better and more complicated medications,” Yelena Shamal said.

She also praised Belarus' achievements in cancer prevention and treatment, transplantation of organs, care of premature babies. She reminded that a good regional system of helping mothers and children has been created in the country. Yelena Shamal is convinced that the plan for the next five-year period will include all important aspects.
