More police officers on duty in Belarus ahead of parliamentary elections

MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) – More police officers have been put on duty due to the forthcoming elections to the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament, BelTA learned from Dmitry Kuryan, Chief of the Law Enforcement Office of the Central Office for Law Enforcement and Prevention of the Public Security Police of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry, at a press conference on 12 November.

According to the source, Belarusian police personnel and interior troops of the Internal Affairs Ministry will operate in reinforced mode on 11-18 November as per instructions of the internal affairs minister. Response centers have been established in the Internal Affairs Ministry and in all territorial police departments.

Police officers have helped examine all the polling stations. Their physical infrastructure was checked as well as compliance with public security measures. Close attention was paid to the organization of polling stations in correctional facilities.

More firefighters and rescue workers will be put on duty on the election day, 17 November. Head of the Oversight and Prevention Office of the Emergencies Ministry Dmitry Turchin said that engineers and inspectors will be stationed at all the polling stations. The polling stations are in good order from the point of view of fire safety.

“Members of election commissions have been trained and instructed, a total of about 25,000 people. The main matters we suggest paying more attention to include the maintenance of fire escapes, fire alarms, and proper use of electric appliances,” Dmitry Turchin said. In his words, safety culture gets better with every election campaign and the number of violations gets smaller all the time.
