Montenegro seeks closer academic ties with Belarus

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) – Montenegro would like to expand academic partnership with Belarus, President of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts Dragan Vukcevic said as he met with Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Vladimir Gusakov, BelTA learned from the press service of the NASB.

Dragan Vukcevic noted that Montenegro is interested in expanding academic cooperation across all disciplines of mutual interest. First of all, this pertains to humanities, social and natural sciences. Vladimir Gusakov reminded that the NASB and the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts signed a cooperation agreement on 19 December 2003. “However, unfortunately this document has not been implemented in full. Scientists need to ramp up academic cooperation for the benefit of the economies of the two countries,” he added.

Vladimir Gusakov suggested elaborating new mutually beneficial projects that can be successfully commercialized. The parties will also exchange academic knowledge and run exchange programs for scientists. He suggested considering the entry of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts into the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS). In 2017 the NASB assumed organizational and methodological functions of the association.

The delegation of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts is on a visit to Minsk on 17-20 June upon the invitation of the NASB. On 18 June the Montenegrin delegation visited the Museum of the NASB History, a permanent exhibition “The Best of National Science for the Industry”. The delegation will also be taken to the NASB Institute of Sociology, the Museum of Ancient Belarusian Culture run by the Center for Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature, the Stepanov Institute of Physics, and the Geoinformation Systems enterprise.
