Moldova keen on Belarus' forensic practices

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – Moldova will draw on the experience of Belarusian forensic experts in the organization of its genetic laboratory, Director of the Center of Forensic Medicine of Moldova Valeri Savciuc told the media, BelTA has learned.

“We will soon open our genetic laboratory and we need to hold consultations with Belarusian counterparts,” said Valeri Savciuc.

Genetic research is very expensive, but very important, the director of the center added. Earlier, the law-enforcement bodies of Moldova had to request genetic expertise in Belarus, Romania or Ukraine. The opening of the genetic laboratory in Moldova will help enhance the level of forensic activities.

Forensic experts from Belarus and Moldova have been fruitfully cooperating for many years. “We are always in touch. We give each other advice on different issues, some types of examinations. There were cases when we sent our findings to Belarus to get confirmation,” Valeri Savciuc said.

In the run-up to their professional day, Belarusian forensic specialists organized the international conference “The Eurasian partnership of forensic experts: challenges, problems, solutions and prospects of development” on 19-20 April. The event has brought together more than 30 peer institutions from more than 20 states. At the breakout sessions the experts exchanged experience in carrying out research in forensic medical, forensic engineering, forensic criminal investigation and other types of examinations. Foreign colleagues will be shown both Belarusian technical developments in forensics and the solution of international manufacturers.
