MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – The exhibition titled “Sport is High Art” will be launched within the framework of the international project “European Games – European Art” in the Belarusian National Center for Contemporary Art on 6-30 June, head of the center Sergei Krishtapovich said at a press conference on 11 March, BelTA has learned.
“We invited all the countries participating in the European Games to join the exhibition which will feature archive photos and modern photo projects, posters, videos, sculptures, documents related to performance art practices which study the theme of sport in the broad cultural, historical, and social context. Seven participating countries have already accepted the invitation. I hope that other countries will also get involved soon,” the head of the center noted.
The centerpiece of the exposition will be the collection of archive photos and videos from the holdings of the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings. “Photos and videos from competitions, spartakiads, sport parades, training sessions, portraits of outstanding athletes of the Soviet Union reflect the entire culture when the cult of a healthy body was associated with youth and power of the country, and widespread enthusiasm about sport was part of the global process to raise ‘man of the future',” Sergei Krishtapovich added.
An important part of the exhibition will also comprise works of representatives of modern sport photojournalism. Apart from the exhibition, the project will include performances, film screenings, press conferences, and thematic debates.
The international project “European Games – European Art” will run from April till 1 September. Applications for the project will stay open till 22 April. The deadline for works of art will close on 15 May.
The project is organized by the National Center for Contemporary Art, the Belarusian Union of Artists and the Belarusian Union of Designers supported by the Culture Ministry of Belarus.
