Minsk to host Christmas Opera Forum on 12-18 December

MINSK, 10 December (BelTA) – The 10th edition of the Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum will take place in the Belarusian capital on 12-18 December, First Deputy Director General of the Bolshoi Theater of Belarus Vladimir Rylatko told the media in Minsk on 10 December, BelTA has learned.

The forum will be opened by a premiere of the season, Alexander Borodin's epic Prince Igor directed by Galina Galkovskaya and conducted by Alexander Anissimov. On 12 December, the lead male roles will be performed by Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Sergey Murzaev (Prince Igor), winner of the Grand Prix of the 4th Minsk International Singing Competition Sargis Bazhbeuk-Melikyan (Konchak), People's Artist of Belarus Vladimir Petrov (Galitsky), and Yuri Gorodetsky (Vladimir Igorevich). The parts of Yaroslavna and Konchakovna will be performed by People's Artist of Belarus Anastasia Moskvina and Honored Artist of Belarus Oksana Volkova.

On 14 December, the National Opera of Ukraine will present Gioachino Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia (The Barbet of Seville) staged by Anatoliy Solovianenko and conducted by Alla Kulbaba. The performance in Minsk will feature the soloists, chorus and orchestra of the National Opera of Ukraine.

On 15 December, the Bolshoi Theater of Belarus will feature Giacomo Puccini's Turandot directed by Mikhail Pandzhavidze. The leading part will be performed by Yekaterina Golovleva. Thomas Paul (Austria), a graduate of the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz, University of Music in Vienna and University of Music and Dramatic Arts Mozarteum Salzburg, will perform the role of Calaf. Claudia Kang (Korea) will perform the role of Liu. She has performed at the major opera houses of France in Paris, Marseille, Montpellier, and Toulouse. Maestro Aleh Lessoun will conduct.

On 16 December, the audience is invited to enjoy Johann Strauss's The Bat, a premiere of the last season, staged by Hungarian director Kero. The leading parts are performed by soloists of the Belarusian opera Diana Trifonova, Irina Kuchinskaya, Yekaterina Mikhnovets, Dmitry Shabetya, Aleksandr Gelakh, and Denis Yantsevich. The opera is conducted by Ivan Kostyakhin. The maestro will present his version of Gaetano Donizetti's comedy Viva la Mamma! at the Chamber Hall on 13 December.

On 17 December, Bizet's Carmen will be on. The play launched the Opera Theater in 1933. Some 87 years later the leading parts will be performed by Oksana Volkova (Carmen), leading tenor of the United States Adam Digel (Jose) and soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theatre and Latvian National Opera Janis Apinis (Escamillo). Andrei Galanov will conduct.

The gala concert will gather the best performers on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater on 18 December. The program will feature Nadine Koutcher, Angelos Samartsis (Greece), Veronica Brook (Israel), Vincenzo Costanzo (Italy), Adam Digel (USA), Janis Apinis (Latvia), Ljubica Vranes (Serbia), Helen Lepalaan (Estonia), Agnieszka Rehlis (Poland), Ric Furman (USA), Nana Dzidziguri (Georgia), Ivo Stanchev (Bulgaria), Anna Bondarenko (Ukraine), Dmitry Garbovsky (Ukraine), and also soloists of the Bolshoi Theater of Belarus Oksana Volkova, Anastasia Moskvina, Andrei Valentiy, Margarita Levchuk, Ilya Silchukov. Gianluca Marciani will conduct.

According to Vladimir Rylatko, the Christmas Opera Forum is always a big celebration. “The forum is well-known and welcomes more participants every year,” he stressed.

Vladimir Rylatko added that a gala concert featuring winners of the Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition will take place on 11 December. The general partner of the Christmas Opera Forum is the Bank BelVEB.
