Minsk, Lodz to strengthen cooperation in education, healthcare, culture, sport

MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – Minsk and Poland's Lodz are set to strengthen cooperation in education, healthcare, culture, and sport. The matter was discussed at a meeting between Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets and Lodz Vice Mayor Krzysztof Piatkowski on 11 September, BelTA has learned.

Krzysztof Piatkowski noted that Lodz and Minsk have a twinning agreement and the two cities have a lot in common.

A joint cultural project has been implemented this year. Not long ago the New Theatre of Kazimierz Dejmek in Lodz presented its play Kobro at the National Theater of the Belarusian Dramaturgy. The play tells the story of a creative family that unites the Polish and Belarusian nations. This week the Polish theater will present in Lodz its play after Svetlana Aleksiyevich's Chernobyl Prayer.

As for the future joint projects, the two cities plan to organize an international water polo tournament. Minsk and Lodz also show a mutual interest in developing cooperation in education and healthcare.

The parties signed an action plan for 2017-2019. The heads of the two cities also exchanged souvenirs. Krzysztof Piatkowski presented Andrei Shorets with an image of a sculpture which will be later made and handed to Minsk.

The guests from Lodz took part in the celebrations of Minsk's 950th birthday and emphasized a high level of the organization of the events.
