Minsk hosts OSTIS conference on artificial intelligence

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The eight edition of the international science conference Open Semantic Technologies for Intelligent Systems (OSTIS 2018) kicked off at Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics on 15 February, BelTA learned from the university.

The annual conference pushes the boundaries of cooperation between science schools, universities, and organizations working in the field of artificial intelligence, and also business communities. This year, the conference brought over 120 scientists from six countries in Minsk, namely Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

“Every year OSTIS sees more and more young people. I am happy to note the growing interest of the new generation of specialists in innovative technology. The digital economy development ordinance, which put a great emphasis on AI development, is a good impetus to new ideas that can be put into practice at OSTIS 2019. The second day of the conference will take place in Belarus' Hi-Tech Park. We plan to become the park's resident company in the near future,” First Prorector of Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics Sergei Dik noted.

Several reports are scheduled for 16 February. They will be dedicated to some practical matters: scientists, postgraduates, and students will present their research on intelligent system applications and ways to use them in food and military industry, medicine, and education. The second day of the conference will wrap up with a roundtable discussion on problems and development of applied research in the field of artificial intelligence. According to Vladimir Golenkov, co-chairman of the OSTIS 2018 organizing committee, head of the intelligent information technology department at Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, customer feedback is one of the essential elements of innovation promotion.

The conference will run till 17 February. The organizers are Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, the Hi-Tech Park, the Education Ministry, the Communications and Informatization Ministry, the Russian Association for Artificial Intelligence, other institutions and tech companies.
