Minsk European Games: Roadside facilities in Brest Oblast to be ready by 1 May

BREST, 28 March (BelTA) – The preparation of roadside service facilities for the 2nd European Games in Brest Oblast should be completed by 1 May, Brest Oblast Governor Anatoly Lis said at a meeting of the oblast executive committee on 28 March, BelTA has learned.

The participants of the meeting considered the development of roadside service and infrastructure in Brest Oblast, their readiness to welcome the guests of the 2nd European Games. “High-quality trade and catering services are an important component of comfortable stay for any visitor. In this regard, it is necessary to complete work on the preparation of all roadside facilities by 1 May. Brest is the first city to welcome the Flame of Peace in Belarus,” the governor said. He emphasized the importance of the services industry as one of the main conditions to boost the tourism potential of the region.

“It is also imperative to landscape the surrounding areas, equip parking spaces with special signs, provide roadside facilities with payment terminals and Wi-Fi internet access. Another important issue is to upgrade roads. Besides, guests should be provided with the possibility to try a wide assortment of the Belarusian dishes, buy Brest Oblast and Belarus merchandise, tourist booklets,” the governor said.

According to head of the main catering department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Valery Matskevich, there are 269 roadside facilities in the oblast, including 77 filling stations, 16 hotels, 60 trade facilities, 79 public catering facilities. Almost half of them is located on the major highways М1/Е30 и М10. The average distance between roadside facilities on these highways makes up 20-30km. Some districts on the highways M1, M10, P8 and P85 lack public catering facilities.

The general plan to develop roadside facilities on national roads through 2020 envisages the allocation of land plots for the construction of public catering facilities and filling stations. At present, there are 16 such land plots in Brest Oblast. They are mainly located along the loop road around Belovezhskaya Pushcha. The plans for 2019 include the commissioning of ten roadside facilities in the region. Eighteen roadside facilities have been built in the oblast over the past three years.
