Minsk, Bonn to bolster bilateral ties

MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) - Minsk and Bonn intend to intensify cooperation in education, culture and sport. The cooperation prospects between the two cities were discussed in a meeting between Minsk Vice Mayor Igor Yurkevich and Bonn Mayor Ashok-Alexander Sridharan, BelTA learned from the press service of the Minsk City Hall.

The cities have been developing friendly ties since 1993. The public organization “Club Minsk-Bonn” has resumed work after a seven-year hiatus. At a meeting in late November, a decision was taken to develop a joint plan of activities in various fields.

A German delegation came to Minsk to attend the ceremonies to celebrate the 950th anniversary of the Belarusian capital. In January representatives of the sister-city will visit Minsk again to identify the areas for further work that will give a new impetus to the partnership.

Minsk Vice Mayor Igor Yurkevich is in Germany on 5-7 December. He is scheduled to attend a meeting of the Rau Minsk International Education Center and the roundtable “Best practices: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in partnership”. Igor Yurkevich will make a presentation at the conference “Partnership at the local level: achieving the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 by joint efforts”. During the visit the Belarusian delegation is also set to get familiar with the social infrastructure of Bonn.
