Minsk airport ready to welcome flights from North America, India, Japan

MINSK, 27 March (BelTA) – We would like to welcome flights from North America, India and Japan in Minsk, Dmitry Melikyan, Director General of Minsk National Airport, said in an interview with the STV TV channel on 26 March, BelTA has learned.

“As for new destinations, we would really want to welcome aircraft from North America and India. We are also considering Japan as a potential destination,” Dmitry Melikyan noted.

As he commented on the possibility of cooperation with low-cost airlines, Dmitry Melikyan pointed out that they do not always meet the Belarusian standards. “They offer low fares and that's great, but such companies use other ways to make money: they request passengers to pay for luggage, for services provided on-board for additional money. We stick to the following standards: the passengers who use our airport should have 20 kilograms of checked luggage and 8 kilograms of hand baggage included in their tickets. We should make travel as comfortable as possible. I believe that our people should be provided with high-quality service,” Dmitry Melikyan emphasized.

He also noted that the airport is undergoing an upgrade that includes replacement of passenger loading bridges, installation of panoramic elevators facing the airport apron and several platforms that would facilitate the movement of people with disabilities between floors. Besides, the airport has plans to buy additional sleep boxes that are popular with passengers.
