Minsk aims for origami record to mark Japanese animated film premiere

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) – Minsk will attempt to break the record for the biggest and fastest origami construction on 21 June to mark the Belarusian-language premiere of Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, an animated fantasy film written and directed by renowned Hayao Miyazaki, BelTA has learned.

All spectators are invited to take part in the origami construction. A fast master-class in origami will be held before the premiere; after that the participants will be given three minutes to fold as many paper fishes as possible. If a new record is set, it will be officially registered with the Book of Records of the CIS and Baltic States Divo.

The fish figures and origami were chosen for a reason. The major character of the movie is a fish, while origami, just like animated movies, is among the most recognizable symbols of Japan. This time Belarusians will have an opportunity to get closer to the Japanese culture and try to set their own record.

The Belarusian-language premiere of the Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea movie will take place in the Moscow movie theater on 21-24 June and in the Pioneer movie theater on 23-27 June. The movie was translated and dubbed by the Kinakong company. The project is supported by the velcom mobile services provider.
