Military town for Belarusian nuclear power plant security detachment opened

MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) – Belarusian law enforcement agencies have everything they need to effectively secure and defend the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The statement was made by Belarusian Interior Minister Igor Shunevich during the ceremony held on 16 March to open the military town where the military unit in charge of security of the Belarusian nuclear power plant will be stationed, BelTA has learned.

The Interior Minister said that Belarusian specialists have more than once traveled to Russia and Kazakhstan for the sake of borrowing combat experience from their colleagues, who protect similar installations. “We know and have mastered all the technologies for securing and defending a nuclear power plant. The nuclear power plant will start working under our protection,” stressed Igor Shunevich.

The official noted that excellent conditions had been enabled for the military unit's personnel in the town. “The buildings have been built fast and smooth. I am sincerely happy about those, who will be stationed here,” said Igor Shunevich.

Military unit No.7434 is an independent battalion in charge of security of the nuclear power plant proper and the surrounding territory. Chief of the Interior Troops of the Belarusian Interior Ministry Yuri Karayev, Chairman of the Ostrovets District Executive Committee Igor Shaludin, Director General of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant Mikhail Filimonov also took part in the military town's opening ceremony.

In anticipation of Interior Troops Day the Interior Minister presented a battle banner to the battalion. “Today the military unit celebrates another birthday as a battle banner is handed over to it in line with the relevant presidential decree. I am convinced that you will continue serving the Motherland with dedication,” said the Belarusian Interior Minister.
