Memory Train marathon to start in Vitebsk on 27 April

VITEBSK, 26 April (BelTA) – The Memory Train marathon dedicated to the 73rd anniversary of the Great Victory and the 100th anniversary of Soviet Union Komsomol youth movement will start in Vitebsk on 27 April, BelTA learned from the Vitebsk Oblast Committee of the BRSM Youth Union.

The three-day event will be held as part of the nationwide patriotic project Flowers of Great Victory. The event will start with the open debate Dialogue of Generations to discuss the topic A Look Through the Years in the Vitebsk children and youth art center. It will be attended by young people, active members of the BRSM and Belaya Rus regional organizations, Vitebsk Oblast department of the Belarusian Peace Fund and labor unions. Komsomol movement veterans will also be invited. The Vitebsk regional and city authorities and the leaders of public organizations will be invited as experts. The discussion will be dedicated to the youth patriotic upbringing and continuity of generations.

The marathon program will also feature a commemorative meeting near the memorial to the fallen komsomol partisans in Zheleznodorozhny district of Vitebsk, a flower ceremony at the momument to the partisan Konstantin Zaslonov in Orsha, a visit to the Brest Hero Fortress memorial complex where the komsomol movement veterans will present membership cards to the BRSM newcomers. The young participants of the marathon will be offered a great entertainment program: a contest for the best cockpit, a historical quiz, the best photo and best video contests.

The marathon aims to popularize Belarus' history and historical sights, to promote civil and patriotic education of young people and to engage youth in important social and civil activities.
