Maltsev: Border security becomes number one priority worldwide

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – Border security has become the number one priority in the world today, Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Leonid Maltsev said as he met with heads of the national mass media outlets on 26 May, BelTA has learned.

“A lot has been recently done in the State Border Committee. These changes have been driven by the overall situation, not by someone's independent wish. Border security has taken to the forefront worldwide, and especially it concerns Europe,” said Leonid Maltsev.

In his words, many countries preferred to focus on the development of their police and other services rather than their border services. This strategy led to the border and national security of these countries being placed under threat.

“Fortunately, such trends were unpopular here. We were developing so that our border security could adequately respond to any emerging risks, challenges and threats. Our system was adapted to the current situation. Today we can say that we have reliable border security,” the Chairman of the State Border Committee stressed.
