Makei: Traditional embroidery patterns highlight Belarus' affinity with other Slavic nations

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – The heads of the diplomatic missions accredited in Belarus and their families participated in a festive event Day of Belarusian Vyshyvanka on 25 June at the invitation of Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei. The event was held in the run-up to the Belarus Independence Day celebrations, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his welcoming remarks, the minister emphasized the importance of such events aimed at preserving and promoting the identity of the Belarusian nation. “It is a good thing that today we have an opportunity to go back to history, to our roots. I believe that our today's meeting is a contribution to the development of the Belarusian identity and the Belarusian state,” Vladimir Makei stressed.

He noted that Belarusians are peaceful and non-adversarial people, and these national traits are reflected in the traditional patterns that essentially embody peace and creativity. Vladimir Makei said that the patterns are something that Belarusians share with other Slavic nations. “Today an idea has been suggested to hold an event whose participants would wear their traditional shirts, traditional costumes,” the minister said.

The participants were invited to enjoy a presentation of linen products from the Belkhudozhpromysly company and private collections. Foreign diplomats were also treated to music performances by band Pawa and folk band GUDA.
