Lithuania to raise legal alcohol drinking age to 20

Vilnius, 1 June (BelTA - ELTA) - On Thursday, the Seimas of Lithuania adopted a package of amendments to the Law on Alcohol Control, with support of 101 MPs, 10 votes against and 10 abstentions. Some amendments will become effective from 2018, while others - as of 2020.

Parliament decided to raise the legal drinking age to 20 years as of 2018 and to shorten the hours of alcohol sales in stores and catering establishments.

Alcohol consumption in sport event venues during sport events will be forbidden completely, as well as sales of alcohol in the country's beaches.

As of 2020, non-stationary points of alcohol sales will disappear.

The law will also forbid alcohol advertisements except for places where alcoholic beverages are sold.
