The State Flag Square of Belarus was inaugurated in a solemn ceremony in Minsk in the run-up to the Independence Day. The ceremony was attended by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. The 14x7 meter flag was hoisted on a 70 meter flagstaff in the center of the square.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko paid an official visit of to the People’s Republic of China on 15-17 July. The Belarusian head of state met with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping. The two leaders signed a declaration on all-round strategic partnership. Following the visit the two countries signed over 30 bilateral cooperation documents worth about $1.5 billion.

Belarus and Venezuela will develop a new "road map" for the development of bilateral relations, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said after the talks with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Minsk on 3 July.

Minsk hosted the celebrations on the occasion of the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Kievan Russia. The events in Minsk were attended by Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, and the heads of seven Local Orthodox Churches. St. Andrew’s Cross was brought to Minsk on 28 July. More than 50,000 people from all the eparchies of the Belarusian Exarchate and neighboring states attended the festive events. An open-air service was held in the Minsk downtown on 29 July. A memory missive to commemorate the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Kievan Russia was installed in the place of the Minsk most ancient Orthodox church of the 11th century.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed the law to impound cars for drunk driving in Belarus on 12 July. The vehicles will be impounded for repeated DUI within a year. Fines have been increased substantially, criminal liability toughened. The law, which comes into force on 24 October, applies not only to Belarusian but also to foreign nationals.

Belarusian swimmers’ performance at the 27th World University Summer Games in Russia’s Kazan became the best one in the sovereign history of the country’s participation in the Universiades. Leader of the Belarusian national swimming team Alexandra Gerasimenya became a three-time champion of the Universiade and set new Universiade records on all three occasions. The Belarusian also bagged silver. Another young swimmer Yevgeny Tsurkin clinched the gold and silver medals. In Kazan Belarus was represented in 17 sports by 163 athletes, which was Belarus’ record high representation at the Universiades. Belarus’ result in the medal tally was quite good, too, with the team winning 40 medals (13 gold, 13 silver and 14 bronze) and perching in the fifth place.

The MAZ-SPORTauto team was on the pedestal of the international Silk Way rally raid for the first time. Sergei Vyazovich’s crew No.320 came to the finish line third. The opening ceremony of the 2013 Silk Way rally was held near the Kremlin walls in Russia’s capital Moscow on 5 July. The route included such Russian cities as Moscow, Tambov, Volgograd, Elista and Astrakhan, the total length of the route equaling to 4,097km. Partaking in the rally were crews from 27 countries.
