Italy's Parma set to expand cooperation with Gomel Oblast in healthcare

GOMEL, 16 January (BelTA) - Italy's Parma would like to expand cooperation with Gomel Oblast in healthcare, President of the Italian association Help for Children Parma Giancarlo Veneri told BelTA. He is heading the Italian delegation that is on a visit to Gomel Oblast.

Giancarlo Veneri noted that the cooperation between the Italian province of Parma and Gomel Oblast began 20 years ago with humanitarian projects. Gradually the regions started cooperating in the economic and social fields. “We traditionally come to Gomel Oblast in January to outline the plans for the new year. The association suggests new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation between Parma and Gomel Oblast. During this visit we plan to discuss ways to implement joint projects on inclusive education and healthcare,” he said.

These projects will rely on the well-established programs relating to social integration of the children with the Down syndrome from the Ulukovie boarding school and the special needs kids from the correctional training and rehabilitation centers of Rechitsa, Korma and Chechersk. “The main point of our cooperation is to help children with special needs to quickly adapt in the society. We plan to share the experience gained by Italian specialists with colleagues in Gomel during internships both in Belarus and in Italy,” Giancarlo Veneri said.

On 16 January the Italian guests met with representatives of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee to discuss the program of a visit of a Gomel Oblast delegation to Italy, and the internships for Belarusian doctors in Parma, new avenues of cooperation. A meeting was held with the leadership of the Gomel City Hall to discuss the coordination of a number of joint economic and social programs.
