MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – Iran is ready to share its experience of fighting the spread of drugs with Belarus. The idea was mentioned during the working meeting of Chairman of the State Investigation Committee of Belarus Ivan Noskevich and Attorney General of Iran Mohammad Jafar Montazeri on 23 November, BelTA has learned.
Since Belarus and Iran are transit countries, during the meeting close attention was paid to problems relating to the investigation and solving of crimes in the area of illegal turnover of drugs. For the sake of studying Iran's experience of fighting the spread of drugs and for getting familiar with the operation of a special counter-drugs center Mohammad Jafar Montazeri invited Ivan Noskevich to visit Iran at a time of his convenience.
Despite the considerable geographic distance Belarus and Iran are connected with friendly relations based on principles of equality, mutual understanding and respect for sovereignty, Ivan Noskevich noted during the meeting.
The Chairman of the State Investigation Committee of Belarus informed Iranian colleagues how the Committee was established, what role the agency plays as part of the Belarusian government. The sides exchanged opinions about the legal systems of Belarus and Iran, discussed some aspects of investigation process, interaction of investigators with law enforcement agencies and oversight agencies during the investigation of criminal cases, and talked over the training and career enhancement of investigators in Belarus and Iran.
BelTA reported earlier that a delegation of the Prosecutor General's Office of Iran was in Belarus on 23 November. Members of the delegation met with top officials of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Supreme Court, and the Constitutional Court of Belarus. Belarusian Justice Minister Oleg Slizhevsky met with Attorney General of Iran Mohammad Jafar Montazeri. Members of the Iranian delegation were made familiar with the jurisdiction of the Justice Ministry and the agency's role in the Belarusian government. The sides discussed the current level of bilateral cooperation in legal affairs and promising avenues of future cooperation.
