International Book Fair kicks off in Minsk

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – The 25th Minsk International Book Fair, under this year's title Belarus is a Cultural Venue of Europe, will be running in the Belarusian capital from 28 February to 4 March, BelTA informs.

The Guest of Honor at the 25th edition of the expo is Serbia. The central exhibitor is Kazakhstan. Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Kazakhstan, France, Germany, Venezuela, China, Armenia and the UK were the guests of honor at the Minsk book fair in different years.

The Guest of Honor's exhibition program will feature a presentation of the Serbian National Library “Serbian Literature during WWI”, meetings with well-known Serbian prose writer Goran Petrovic, Dajana Lazarevic, the translator of Maksim Bogdanovich's book of poems Vyanok (Wreath) into Serbian, and also the Serbian-Belarusian literary meeting “Artistic and Scientific Tandem: Ivan Charota and Dragan Lakicevic”.

The expo will also feature a number of book presentations about Serbia and a Serbian literature soiree in the House of Friendship.

Taking part in the exhibition will be Russia (the publishing houses from Moscow and St. Petersburg), Germany, the UK, the United States, and China.

Another highlight of the book fair will be the presentation of The Encyclopedia of China in Belarusian, a project carried out under a cooperation agreement between Belarus' Information Ministry and China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.

The Committee for Press and Mass Media Cooperation of the St Petersburg government will present a musical and literary evening dedicated to the Russian city's 315th anniversary and Belarus-Russia joint literary projects.

The book fair will comprise an international literary symposium “Writer and Time”. Writers from more than 20 countries have confirmed their participation in the conference.

The line-up of events includes an awards ceremony for the contest of young writers Pershatsvet (An Early Flower). The works of the winners have been published in the Pershatsvet almanac to be presented at the book fair.

Belarus' national stand at the expo will see numerous guests with authors, publishers, and artists along with presentations of new books, roundtable discussions, autograph sessions, and an awards ceremony for The Art of Book national contest winners.

The 25th edition of the Minsk International Book Fair is organized by the Information Ministry of Belarus, the Minsk City Hall, and the book selling companies Belkniga and Makbel. Entry is free.
