International Association of Academies of Sciences to institute IAAS Award

MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – The International Association of Academies of Sciences decided on it anniversary session on 20 September to institute the IAAS Award. The initiative as put forward by President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Gheorghe Duca and his proposal was supported by all the heads of the national academies, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

At the IAAS anniversary session awards were presented to honorees from the national academies of sciences of Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova in recognition of outstanding scientific results obtained during joint research. The prizes of the Academies of Sciences of Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova are awarded since 1995. The competition is held every two years. The awards of the academies of sciences of Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova have been regularly awarded since 1995. The contest is held once in two years.

Awards in the field of natural sciences were presented to workers of the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus: leading research worker Sergei Voitikov and deputy laboratory chief Inna Khodasevich, and also workers of the Research and Development center of Optical materials and Technology: leading research worker Anatoly Yasyukevich and junior research associate Maksim Demes for the cycle of works "New promising materials for laser technology and nonlinear optics" (Belarus-Ukraine).

The technical sciences award was given to the head of the laboratory of the NASB Heat and Mass Transfer Institute Sergei Levchenko and scientific fellow of the same institute Sergei Plyute for the cycle of works “Intelligent water supply systems of the future on the basis of new technologies (Belarus-Russia-Ukraine).

The award in humanities and social sciences went to the head of the center of the NASB Institute of History Valentin Golubev, the head of the department of the NASB Institute of History Alexander Dovnar, Rector of the Yanka Kupala Grodno State University Irina Kiturko for the cycle of works “Socio-economic transformation and evolution of the system of local self-government in Ukraine and Belarus in the 16th -18th centuries”.

The heads of the national delectations were presented of memorable badges to honor the 90th anniversary of the Belarus National Academy of Sciences.

The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) is hosting the 4th session of the International Association of Academies of Sciences dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the organization in Minsk on 20 September. It has brought together the heads of the CIS and non-CIS academies of sciences, famous scientists. Plans are in place to discuss the adoption of documents to improve the activities of the association, to promote cooperation of the academies of sciences and implement joint projects.

The International Association of Academies of Sciences was established in Kiev on 23 September 1993. In 2017 the NASB assumed organizational and methodological functions of the association. Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov was elected head of the association. The IAAS Council is the supreme governing body of the IAAS. The association includes 13 full-fledged and 6 associate members and has 17 scientific councils.
