Interior Minister: Migration situation in Belarus is stable

MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – The migration situation in Belarus does not raise serious concern in the police, Belarusian Interior Minister Igor Shunevich told reporters following his report to Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 24 September, BelTA has learned.

“If we speak about the country's migration situation, namely, the inflow of foreigners and their impact on the criminal situation in our country, it does not raise any serious concern in the police. The number of crimes committed by foreigners does not rise,” Igor Shunevich said.

According to him, the Interior Ministry is very cautious regarding temporary and permanent stay of foreign nationals in Belarus. The ministry is working on a number of amendments to the law; however, they are mostly aimed to harmonize the existing laws and to streamline individual administrative procedures. “There are some specific legislative initiatives, they are technical in nature. There is nothing revolutionary in them,” the minister added.
