Increasing security of Belarusian border noted

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – The effectiveness of protection of the Belarusian border gets better and better, BelTA learned from the report released by the State Border Committee of Belarus to sum up results achieved by the country's border service in 2017.

In 2017 the Belarusian border service apprehended about 600 border trespassers, up from 524 in 2016. As many as 61 people tried to illegally cross the state border via border checkpoints. The Belarusian border service apprehended over 530 trespassers outside border checkpoints, up from 474 people in 2016.

In 2017 the Belarusian border service detected over 1,300 attempts to illegally transport items of value across the border and deep inside the country, with their worth estimated at about Br8.5 million. Over 1,100 illegal attempts to smuggle items of value worth Br6.3 million were stopped in 2016.

The implementation of the government program on developing and modernizing the infrastructure of the state border in 2014-2022 continues. The new hardware allows remotely observing the situation in parts of the state border without human interference.
