IAEA, WANO Moscow Center hosting joint seminar in Belarus

VIENNA, 29 September (BelTA) – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Moscow Center of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) are hosting a seminar titled as Enhancing Efficiency of Using the Operation Experience at the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP), BelTA learnt from the Information and PR Department of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant.

Attending the event are representatives of the WANO Moscow Center and the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, experts from Slovakia, Iran, the United States, Ukraine, Russia, and Bulgaria. The seminar will highlight the issues of enhancing the efficiency of using the operation experience at the working nuclear power plants and the ones under construction.

The program of the seminar will include a visit to the BelNPP information center in order to take an insight into the progress made in the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The seminar will run through 1 October.

Belarus' prospects of cooperation with the IAEA, including the possibilities of organizing seminars, are being discussed as part of the IAEA's 60th General Conference these days. An exposition of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was also opened as part of the event and drew big interest from visitors of the IAEA headquarters. The stand, first of all, drew the attention of representatives of the countries that are just starting the construction of their nuclear power plants or mulling over the NPP construction. The exposition also caught the attention of VIP guests of the IAEA event. For example, the Belarusian exposition was visited by Director General of the World Nuclear Association Agneta Rising. She was interested in the implementation of the nuclear power plant project and the country's future plans regarding its construction.
